“The Ultimate Fighter 14” Bantamweight tournament winner John “The Magician” Dodson will get a chance to win UFC gold, he only has to go through Brazilian MMA champion flyweight Jussier Formiga to do it.
According to a report on MMAJunkie.com, UFC President Dana White said that the winner of the Dodson vs. Formiga at fight at UFC on FX 5 on Oct. 5,will get the first crack at UFC Flyweight champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson.
The Magician had only fought at 135 pounds during his time on “The Ultimate Fighter.” He made the drop back to flyweight back in May where he defeated Tim Elliot by decision at UFC on Fox 3.
In an interview with MMAJunkie, Dodson said that a fight between him and Mighty Mouse would be “the fastest fight that anybody has ever seen.”
“They’re going to have to watch it in slow-motion replay.”
However Dodson is not looking past Formiga. He said he has been following the Brazilian fighter for his entire career.
I’ve seen him go from nothing but jiu-jitsu to having a little bit of hands now, so I’m actually really excited to see what he’s going to bring to this fight.”
Formiga, who will be making his UFC debut in his fight against Dodson, is currently 14-1 with a Shooto South American 123 pound championship and seven submission finishes under his belt. His only loss came to a decision against Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall, back at Tachi Palace Fights 8 in 2011.
The fight between Dodson and Formiga could also bring new light to the UFC’s Flyweight division and possibly eliminate the bad taste that was left in the mouths of some fans, after the flyweight title fight between Johnson and Joseph Benavidez at UFC 152.
Dodson and Formiga will be a part of the main card at the UFC on FX 5 event.
