UFC on FX 5: Browne vs. Bigfoot goes down tomorrow and features some compelling fights on the main card.  The UFC heavyweight division has made improvements by leaps and bounds in terms of depth, and fans will be treated to another interesting match up when Travis Browne takes on Antonio Silva.  Let’s now take a look at the main card in its entirety and make some predictions.

Starting off the main card is a welterweight bout between Josh Neer and Justin Edwards.  Josh Neer is coming into this fight with all of the advantages in his favor.  He is more experienced, the better striker, the better grappler, and has better finishing abilities.   Neer will pick apart Edwards on the feet, and from there he will take this fight to the ground.  He will batter Edwards on the ground with some vicious elbows, allowing him to rock Edwards and sink in a submission.  Final prediction: Josh Neer wins via submission in the first round

Next up is a flyweight fight between TUF winner John Dodson and Jussier Forminga.  The flyweights are known for their speed and athleticism, and this should be a showcase fight for both fighters.  John Dodson possesses the power advantage, which should help him out in the latter rounds of this fight.  Jussier Forminga has yet to compete inside the octagon, which should give Dodson the experience advantage as well.  Final prediction: John Dodson wins via TKO in the first round.

A pivotal welterweight showdown takes place between Jake Ellenberger and Jay Hieron.  Both of these fighters previously fought in the past, but both are at different stages in their MMA career at this point.  Ellenberger is an explosive striker that has competent wrestling abilities, and he will use his power to hurt Hieron, sending him into a defensive shell for the majority of the fight.  Final prediction: Jake Ellenberger wins via unanimous decision

The main event features a heavyweight bout that has title implications written all over it when Travis Browne takes on Antonio Silva.  Both of these fighters can finish the fight from the feet, and they also have competent grappling skills.  Browne likes to use his speed and reach to force his opponents into a stand up battle, but he also has shown some serious submission skills as of late.

Antonio Silva likes to his use size and strength in order to land big shots standing, and he is a force when is on top of his opponents on the ground, which can be seen with his win over Fedor Emelianeko.  Both of these fighters will exchange punches early on, but it will be Antonio Silva that will take this fight to the ground and land some viscous ground and pound from the top.  Final prediction: Antonio Silva wins via TKO in the third round
