UFC on FX 5 Results: Mike Pierce KOs Aaron Simpson

Mike Pierce UFC

Kelvin Kuo-US Presswire

A dynamic welterweight bout took place today between Aaron Simpson and Mike Pierce.  Both fighters were looking to move up the welterweight division, and Mike Pierce certainly just made a huge statement by getting the KO in the second round.

This was an amazing performance from Pierce because he was getting dominated in the first round.  Simpson was able to land some heavy knees during the exchanges in the first round and even had Pierce rocked.  He would go on to lock up a submission, but Pierce would weather the storm until the round ended.

Pierce has always been a gritty welterweight.  His ability to weather punches from his opponents makes him one of the most durable fighters right now.  This was on full display in this fight with Aaron Simpson.  It seemed like Simpson was getting the better of Pierce, but you can’t count out a guy that never stops coming and has one punch knockout power.   Kudos to Pierce for hanging in there and getting a much needed win.

Pierce stormed out of the second round and so did Simpson.  It was Pierce that connected with a nice right, however, that sent Simpson to the canvas and it was all over from there.  Pierce is now on a two fight winning streak, and he is right back up there with the best of them in the welterweight division.  Up next for Pierce is unknown at the moment, but a fight with either Jake Ellenberger or the winner of the Jon Fitch vs. Erick Silva fight seems like the most logical at this point.

Dana White Doesn’t Think Conor McGregor Can Beat Rafael dos Anjos

Things are getting interesting ahead of UFC 196. The headlining fight at that March 5 pay-per-view event will see UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor move up to lightweight to face the champion of that division Rafael dos Anjos. If McGregor succeeds he will become the first UFC fighter to hold belts in two different divisions simultaneously. The oddsmakers have McGregor as the favorite ahead of the fight. UFC president Dana White doesn’t necessarily hold the same opinion.
