UFC 153: Glover Teixeira vs. Fabio Maldonado Preview

A great fight takes place this weekend for UFC 153 between Glover Teixeira and Fabio Maldonado.  Both of these fighters will be trying to move up the light heavyweight ladder, which currently is being dominated by Jon Jones.

Glover Teixeira comes into this fight with an overall record of 18-2 and is on an incredible 16 fight winning streak that is amazing to say the least.  He made waves in his UFC debut against Kyle Kingsburry.  In their fight, Teixeira showed excellent boxing combinations on the feet, sending Kingsburry to the canvas.

Glover would go on to lock up a submission and make his statement to every fighter in the light heavyweight division.  Many have raved about Teixeira’s power, and it’s nice to finally see him inside the UFC.  It will be interesting to see how he fairs against the best in hopes of challenging for a title later down the road.

Fabio Maldonado comes into this fight with an overall record of 18-5.  He is 1-2 in his UFC tenure and has a notable win over James McSweeney.  He has shown some great boxing in his UFC thus far; particularly his body punches have been impressive.  His fight with Teixeira will be his toughest opponent to date, and it will be interesting to see if he can rise to the occasion and derail Teixeira’s momentum.

Both of these fighters have comparable stand up skills, which should make for a very entertaining bout when they lock horns.  The winner of this bout is one step closer to fighting for the title later on down the road.
