Most fighters have not exactly been lining up for a crack at Glover Texeira, an extremely dangerous and experienced fighter who lacks the name recognition so far to make a match with him worth the risk to many well-known fighters. However, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson is not most fighters.

Earlier today he tweeted to UFC president Dana White, “Yo @danawhite set up that fight with Glover please! Lets give him what he wants..fans I won’t let u down #fightofthenight.” To which White laconically replied, “@Rampage4real sounds good bro.”

Texeira and Jackson were originally slated to fight at UFC 153, but that bout was cancelled after Jackson injured his elbow. After several potential opponents turned down the bout, Texeira was matched with Fabio Maldonado. Maldonado impressed fans with his toughness, but he was beaten so badly by Texeira that the ringside doctor called for an end to the bout after the second round.

Some had suggested that Jackson was originally matched with Texeira in the last fight of his UFC contract as a punishment for his public complaints about and strained relationship with the UFC. Of late, however, Jackson has indicated a renewed interest in and motivation for his fighting career.

After his victory over Maldonado, Texeria stated during his postfight interview, “I’d like to fight Quinton Jackson, I never talked (expletive) about him, I don’t talk about him, he was my idol, I loved that guy coming up in Pride. But he says I was talking bad about him, I’m not talking bad about him, I’m not afraid of no man…Step in the ring with me, I’ll fight anyone.”

With Jackson, Texeira and White all apparently on board, it appears that all that remains to be determined is a date for that match.
