One of the biggest news stories coming out of this week in the world of MMA is that Chael Sonnen will be squaring off against Jon Jones for season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter. Sonnen was original set to face Forrest Griffin at UFC 155. Instead, Sonnen will be taking on current light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and Griffin is without an opponent.
Apparently Griffin is not a fan of Sonnen and his fighting style. In a recent interview with Ariel Helawni, Griffin commented on his thoughts bout the Jones vs. Sonnen bout.
“Forrest doesn’t know. I actually just spoke to him, moments ago. He said he just found out about the news, as well. He doesn’t know if he’ll still fight on the UFC 155 card at the end of the year, but he did have a couple interesting things to say Chael. He said, ‘I don’t blame Chael for taking this fight. Why work your way to the top, if you can talk your way to the top?’ And he did say, somewhat jokingly, ‘I’m actually glad that I’m not fighting him now, because watching his fights was so boring and tedious.’”
Forrest Griffin has been in the UFC for many years now and has competed with the best. He even won a championship when he beat Rampage Jackson. He has every right to be upset with the fact that Sonnen is bypassing the whole division and getting a title shot even when he has yet to win a fight in the division.
Sonnen is also coming off a loss to Anderson Silva, so his fight with Jones is somewhat questionable. More fighters in the division like Griffin will surely voice the opinions about the fight in the weeks to come.
Does Griffin have a point about Chael being a boring fighter? Or is he just sour that the didn’t get his chance to make it 2-0 against the Oregon gangster? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
