Wanderlei Silva Wants Fights With Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen
“The Axe Murderer” Wanderlei Silva has a couple of opponents in mind for his next fight.
In an interview with MMAjunkie.com Radio, the former Pride Middleweight champion said he would like to have a rematch with former rival and UFC Light Heavyweight champion Vitor “The Phenom” Belfort, as well as face off against former middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen.
Silva, who is coming off a decision loss in his rematch against former UFC Middleweight champion Rich Franklin, said he could ready to fight in a month if the UFC needed him for an event, whether they want him to fight at middleweight or light heavyweight.
“I’m eating really good. I’m healthy right now. I go to sleep at 11 p.m., wake up at 6 a.m., and drink my coffee.”
With Sonnen set to coach against UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones on the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” Silva has a better chance of getting a fight with Belfort. The Phenom is coming off of a loss against Jones at UFC 152.
Belfort and Silva clashed in the octagon in 1998 in Brazil where the Phenom scored a 44-second knock out over the Axe Murderer. The two fighters coached opposite each other in the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”
They were set to face off in a rematch at UFC 147 until Belfort broke his hand and had to pull out of the fight.
A rematch between Silva and Belfort could still generate fan interest, especially if the rematch were to take place in Brazil.
