Anderson Silva in the past has been adamant about not facing Jon Jones. They both have mutual respect for each other, and they both have gone on record saying their intentions are not to fight each other.
It seems, however, that Silva is warming up to the idea of a Jon Jones super fight, which is what every MMA fan seems to want these days. In a recent interview with SporTV, Anderson talked about a potential fight with the current light heavyweight champion of the UFC.
“Of course, I could be saying that I don’t want it, but what if he goes out and accepts the money Dana is proposing for him to fight? It will be hard (not to accept it). It’s not the money that motivates me to fight, I fight because I like it. So, I don’t know. I wouldn’t like (to fight him). But if it’s going to happen, it would have to be at a catchweight. The belt shouldn’t be at play. I already have mine and I don’t want a belt to be left at the side.”
This news is great for mma fans alike. The thought of these two fighters potentially facing off certainly is worth entertaining, especially if Silva is warming up to the idea. Hopefully Jones will do the same because the money that would be generated from the fight would be tremendous. Silva has said many times that he doesn’t fight for money, which is commendable. Jones, however, is a young fighter and has a family to provide for, so the fight with Silva could pay out in dividends for him if he so chooses to take it.
First things first. Jon Jones has to get past Chael Sonnen first, which is no easy task. Anderson has done it twice in his career, and it will be interesting to see if Jones can do it is well. If Jones can get past Sonnen, then the bout to make and the bout that everyone wants to see is Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones.
