Fabrico Werdum is going to get his wish of being a coach on “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” however it will not be against current UFC Heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos.

According to MMAJunkie.com, UFC officials announced that Werdum would be coaching opposite against former Pride and UFC Interim Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Like most seasons of The Ultimate Fighter, Werdum and Nogueira will have a coaches’ match.

Werdum and Nogueira are no strangers to one another. They faced each other in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Pride Open-Weight Grand Prix tournament where Nogueira came away with a decision victory.

Werdum had previously wanted to coach opposite of Dos Santos, who stopped Werdum with a first-round knockout back in 2008 at UFC 90.

This is not Nogueria’s first-time coaching on the show. He coached against former heavyweight champion Frank Mir on “The Ultimate Fighter’s” eighth season. Winners Ryan Bader and Efrain Escudero were both apart of Team Nogueira.

Although Nogueira has a victory over him, Werdum was able to do the one thing the former Pride champion never could: submit MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko.

Werdum has certainly earned this opportunity to coach on “The Ultimate Fighter.” Since he returned in February, he owns a decision victory over Roy Nelson – in a bout that was awarded UFC 143’s Fight of the Night – and a first-round TKO win over Mike Russow.

He was also a guest coach on Wanderlei Silva’s team during the first season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil.”

While Werdum may have not gotten to coach against Dos Santos, he has a chance to prove himself to the UFC and the rest of the MMA world.

If he does a good job coaching against Nogueira, a title shot could be in his future.
