Jon Jones is set to coach TUF season 17 against Chael Sonnen in what should be an exciting season that will hopefully boost the show’s television ratings.  Well, that’s what Dana White and company hope for.

Jon Jones comes into this coaching spot after dominating Vitor Belfort.  He has seemingly dominated every one in the light heavyweight division, and many are picking him to win big when he squares off against Sonnen.

It appears that Jon has his sights set on the heavyweight division after a few more light heavyweight bouts.  In a recent MetroPCS chat with the fans edition, Jones talked about his potential move to heavyweight.

“I’ll definitely move up to heavyweight But it’ll probably be around 2013. Maybe at the end of 2013. Right now I have a nutritionist and I’m starting to take the career a lot more serious than I used to so my weight cuts are getting a lot easier. I walk around a lot thinner naturally so right now I’m about 225, a 20 pound weight cut. That’s really easy. I might look bigger than everyone else I’m fighting but I’m really not.”

This move is certainly an intriguing one to ponder.  The heavyweight division is currently being reigned by Junior Dos Santos, who is set to take on Cain Velasquez in a rematch.  Jones has been on a meteoric rise as of late, and he could possible win the heavyweight belt if his body fills out in time.  His wrestling and unorthodox striking could pose problems to Dos Santos if he retains his title.

Will Jones be able to grab the heavyweight belt if he moves to that division?  Will he still be able to dominate fighters such Cain Velasquez, JDS, Frank Mir, and Shane Carwin? Stay tuned!
