Michael Bisping is set to take on Vitor Belfort in a middleweight bout that certainly has a lot of meaning behind it. A win for Bisping just may finally allow him to challenge for the belt, which is currently being held by Anderson Silva.
Bisping has fought in the UFC since 2006, and he feels he has done enough in the middleweight division to warrant a title shot; something he feels Chael Sonnen hasn’t deserved as of late. In an interview, Bisping explained his frustrations.
“I can understand it from a business perspective because Chael sells. But it’s frustrating because I’ve been waiting my whole career for a title shot, and the guy’s had three out of his last five fights be title fights. But I do understand and it’ll be a great season of The Ultimate Fighter.”
TUF has suffered as of late in terms of viewers, so it makes the most sense for the UFC to go with a guy that is well versed in the mma wrestling persona to grab more attention toward the show. A title shot is questionable at best for Sonnen, but that is the way the format usually works when a champion is on TUF.
For Bisping, he will not have to worry about his title shot because a win over Belfort will certainly warrant one.
He may have his hands full, however, as Belfort is one of the best strikers in the division. His hand speed and power make him a formidable opponent for any, and he will need to be on his toes throughout the entirety of the fight. Bisping will also need to tap into his excellent cardio because this will be his biggest advantage when he takes on Belfort later this year.
