As 2012 comes to a close, the roster of Invicta Fighting Championships continues to grow. Jodie Esquibel, a strawweight fighter who is 2-0, has signed a multi-fight contract with Invicta FC.
In an interview with the “Low Blow” podcast’s Jorge Hernandez, Esquibel said she was excited and grateful to be a part of the promotion.
Training in Albuquerque, N.M. at Jackson’s MMA, Esquibel made her professional debut in 2011 where scored a first-round TKO victory over Brittany Horton.
Her most recent victory was against Amy Riehle in January 2012, where Esquibel earned a decision victory. She had one amateur fight in 2004 against Jessica Thompson where won by decision.
In addition to her MMA background, Esquibel was a professional boxer from 2005-2011 where she accumulated a record of 6-6-1 and fought some of the most well-known fighters in women’s boxing, including Ava Knight. She is also a firefighter and paramedic.
Esquibel is the second of Greg Jackson’s fighters to be signed with Invicta, the other being Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson, who is coming off a “Fight of the Night” performance against Lacey Schuckman at Invicta FC 3. She also had support from her teammate and coach Julie Kedzie, who commentates at the Invicta FC events.
Although she has fought at strawweight (115-pounds), Esquibel will drop to the atomweight (105-pounds), which will present Esquibel with several challenging opponents and even a possible match-up with the Karate Hottie.
While the time and place of her debut is still to be determined, Esquibel hopes to compete on the Invicta fight card in January 2013.
