The sixth UFC on Fox show is scheduled to take place on January 26 at Chicago’s United Center. The event is now set to feature two potentially thrilling bouts, one between former light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Glover Texeira, and the other between top lightweights Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis.
The 32-10 Jackson and the 19-2 Texeira were originally scheduled to fight last month at UFC 153, but were unable to do so when Jackson was injured. Texeira fought Fabio Maldonado instead, thoroughly dominating that fight; the ringside doctor stopped it after two rounds. The match-up with Texeira will be the last fight on Jackson’s current UFC contract. He plans to become a free agent after it is over.
Rumors of a bout between the 19-4 Cerrone and the 15-2 Pettis have flown for some time, often accompanied by trash talk between the two fighters. Pettis has been dealing with ongoing injuries that prevented him from competing since the beginning of the year. Complications with those health issues led to multiple delays for the fight between Pettis and Cerrone, with Cerrone hinting more than once that Pettis was using the injuries as an excuse to avoid facing him. Barring any further injuries for either man, now the two fighters will finally be able to settle their beef in the Octagon.
The main event for the UFC on Fox 6 show will be the flyweight title fight between champion Demetrius Johnson and challenger John Dodson. The card’s other bouts have not yet been announced.
