Cung Le KOs Rich Franklin
Cung Le wanted to make a statement today when facing Rich Franklin at UFC on Fuel TV 6 in Macau, and he certainly delivered with an impressive KO finish in the very first round.
The bout started out with both fighters engaging each other with leg kicks.
They were both landing some good kicks early on, and it seemed like Le was pacing himself since it was a five round fight. Franklin would go in to land a left leg kick, but Le responded with a devastating right hook that sent Franklin to the canvas out cold. Franklin left his chin out, and Le capitalized with a text book right hook. This is by far Cung Le’s biggest win in his MMA career, and it was also one of his most impressive finishes.
Le was the underdog coming into this fight, but certainly proved the odds makers wrong by ending Rich Franklin’s night in dramatic fashion. What’s next for both fighters is unclear, but Le certainly has made a splash in this ever-changing middleweight landscape. Le is now on a two fight winning streak, and hopefully he decides to continue his MMA career inside the UFC.
Few men have been able to defeat Rich in spectacular fashion. Before this fight, Anderson Silva and Lyoto Machida were the only men to finish him, and Le now adds his name to that list. For Le, he will certainly be getting another top contender in the middleweight division if he continues to pursue his fighting career. For Franklin, maybe it is time for him to finally hang up the gloves. He has had a great UFC career, and he will certainly go down as one of the greats. Congratulations to Cung Le.
