One of the matches Invicta Fighting Championships is targeting for in January 2013 is a rematch against “Queen of Spades” Shayna Baszler (15-7) and Canadian fighter and Raging Wolf Women’s Flyweight champion Alexis Davis (12-5).

Although there has been no official confirmation, the rematch between Davis and Baszler is expected to take place at Invicta FC 4.

Davis and Baszler previously faced each other in the semi-finals of the Freestyle Cage Fighting Women’s Grand Prix tournament in 2010. Davis, who had been a late replacement in the tournament, lost to the Queen of Spades by decision. They were set to face off again in 2011 until Davis signed with Strikeforce.

Since their first encounter, Davis has gone 5-2 in her last seven fights while Baszler has won three of her four last matches.

Both fighters also had an eventful 2012.

Back in March, Davis lost a majority decision to former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman. She was able to rebound in her Invicta FC debut, submitting Smackgirl Middleweight champion Hitomi Akano in the second-round with a rear-naked choke, becoming the first fighter to submit Akano.

On the same night where Davis submitted Akano, Bazler fought a war with Silver medalist Sarah McMann, losing the match by decision. At Invicta FC 3, Baszler submitted Sarah D’ Alelio in round two, also with a rear-naked choke.

With both fighters coming from extensive grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu backgrounds, Davis training with Cesear Gracie and Baszler working with the likes of Josh Barnett, most of this fight will probably happen on the ground. If Davis wants to keep the match in her favor, she may have to keep it standing.

With some of Invicta’s top talent moving over to Strikeforce, both Baszler and Davis have a chance to rise up and the faces of Invicta’s 135-pound division, which could lead to a chance to become Invicta FC’s first bantamweight champion, assuming neither of them get the call to jump to the UFC.
