A lightweight bout is in the works between TUF Season 1 vet Diego Sanchez and the Pride vet Takanori Gomi. Both fighters are synonymous with their exciting styles, which should make for a barn burner.
Diego shared this news via his Twitter account:
Sanchez would be coming into this fight off a gritty loss to Jake Ellenberger. Sanchez has been a staple in the UFC for some time now ever since coming off of TUF. He is currently 23-5 and holds notable wins over Nick Diaz, Clay Guida, Joe Stevenson, Paulo Thiago, and Martin Kampmann.
Gomi has also had a compelling MMA tenure. He is currently 34-8-1. He holds notable wins over Tyson Griffin, Mac Danzig, Jens Pulver, Marcus Aurelio, and Duane Ludwig. He is currently on a two fight winning streak, and a win over Sanchez would certainly project him up to the top of the lightweight rankings, which is currently being reigned by Ben Henderson.
Both of these fighters have a history in MMA, and it should make for an entertaining fight. Sanchez is know for his relentless grappling attack and durability. He will want to get this fight to the ground and unload some brutal ground-and-pound.
For Gomi, he will look to land his powerful left hand in hopes of ending the night early. Regardless of the outcome, fans should expect a war between two of the most experienced fighters in the lightweight division.
