Bellator 83: Jessica Eye vs. Zolia Grugel preview
Flyweight fighter Jessica “Evil” Eye makes her return to the Bellator cage to take on the promotion’s 115-pound champion Zolia “Warrior Princess” Grugel at Bellator 83 on Dec. 7.
The Eye vs. Grugel fight will be a part of a fight card that will feature the finals of Bellator’s Season Seven Featherweight tournament between Russia’s Shahbulat Shamhalaev and America’s Rad Martinez.
This fight should be a closely contested battle.
When it comes to experience, Grugel may have more professional fights on her record; Eye has been fighting longer and was undefeated as an amateur.
Both fighters only have one loss on their record. Eye lost to Aisling Daly due to second-round submission back in 2011 and Grugel lost to former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate in 2010 via armbar submission in the second-round.
Both fighters are coming off of impressive wins. Eye earned a decision victory over Angela Magana in August while Grugel defeated Casey Noland in October.
With a combined total of 15 decision wins between them, this fight will more and likely go the distance, however that does not mean it will not be an exciting one. Look for Grugel to use some of her Taekwondo as the fight begins. Still, Eye is no slouch in the stand up. She has two TKO victories on her record.
Although she is a Bellator champion, Grugel’s fight with Noland was shown on the preliminary card. With her fight against Eye being broadcast on the main card, Grugel will be looking to make a statement that will continue to be a force in Bellator in 2013.
Eye, who is currently 2-0 in the promotion, will no doubt be looking to carve a name for herself by beating one of Bellator’s best.
Bellator is looking to hold a 125-pound women’s tournament in 2013. The fight between Grugel and Eye could be a preview to the finals of that tournament, if it becomes a reality.
