Ross Pearson was fighting for himself and his home country tonight when he squared off against George Sotiropoulos. Both fighters were coaches on TUF “The Smashes“, and they made it apparent to everyone that they didn’t like each other. Ross Pearson certainly proved to be the better man tonight, stopping George in the third round with an emphatic knockout.
Up until the finish, both fighters were evenly matched. George would even almost submit Ross in round two, keeping him guessing. Pearson would also land some good shots, dropping George in each round. He would recover, however, and they would go right back at it.
The third round went a little differently as Pearson was able to finish the fight with an impressive jab then a right hook, sending George to the canvas. This win is by far his biggest to date, and it was on the biggest stage of his life. He puts himself right back in the mix in the lightweight division, which is currently being reigned by Ben Henderson.
This fight capped off a great season of TUF, and Ross certainly has to be proud of this victory. His stand up looked sharp tonight, and he has revitalized his MMA career after this impressive victory.
Ross Pearson can only go up from here. Maybe a rematch with Edson Barboza will be booked, giving him a chance to avenge the loss that was razor close. Whatever is next For Pearson, he showed to everyone tonight why he is a dangerous heavy hitter in the lightweight division.
