Strikeforce is on its final leg and they are looking to go out with a bang. One match up that had garnered the interest of many MMA fans was a middleweight bout between Lorenz Larkin and Jacare Souza. However, Larkin would sustain an injury, forcing him out of the final Strikeforce card.
Instead, Ed Herman will transition from the UFC and take on Jacare, which should be an entertaining bout that will give Souza a stern test to see if he is ready for UFC’s high-caliber fighters.
Herman is coming into this Strikeforce bout off a loss to Jake Shields, which was later ruled a no contest since Shields tested for some illegal substances. In the fight, Herman was unable to land anything really significant on Shields, where he was controlled and taken down on numerous occasions. Souza, one of the best grapplers in mixed martial arts, will be a tough test for Herman.
If Herman wants to remain competitive with Souza, he will surely need to keep the fight standing, and look to test Souza’s chin early and often. Souza is coming into this fight off a beautiful KO victory over Derek Brunson. In this fight, it was clear Souza’s stand up is coming around nicely, which bodes well for him if he wants to compete with fighters like Hector Lombard or Michael Bisping in the UFC’s middleweight division.
Both fighters will be looking to impress as it is Strikeforce’s last show, and the winner of this bout puts their name in the mix in the middleweight division, which is certainly starting to shape up.
