Daniel Cormier has been one of the most talked about prospects in mixed martial arts for some time now. The way he has improved since starting his career has been impressive, and many are waiting in anticipation for him to make his UFC debut.
Cormier, who trains alongside current UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, apparently would like to make his UFC debut in the heavyweight division. In an interview with FightHubTV, Daniel talked about who he wants to fight next.
”I would love for it to be on the FOX show here in San Jose. April 20th, fight Frank Mir, on FOX, have it be a free broadcast and that will help expose me and get more fans behind me who may not know me.”
Both of these fighters were originally scheduled to fight each other under the Strikeforce banner, but an injury suffered from Frank Mir forced the cancellation of the bout.
Before Cormier can even talk about fighting in the UFC, he has to get his mind ready for Dion Staring, who is a competent kick-boxer. This fight will be on the final Strikeforce card, which takes place January 12, 2013.
If Cormier is able to defeat Staring in impressive fashion, he certainly adds to his brand. Many have even talked about a potential Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier match up, which would be a huge fight for Cormier if he is able to make the cut to the light heavyweight division. First things first however, as Cormier will need to look sharp on January 12. Will Cormier keep his winning streak alive and go into the UFC off an emphatic win? Stay tuned!
