Ed Herman vs. Ronaldo Souza Preview

Strikeforce’s last card ever is set to go down January 12, 2013, and one fight that means a lot in terms of relevancy is a middleweight bout between Ed Herman and Ronaldo Souza.  Both fighters will be looking to put on a show for the fans, and the winner puts their name in the mix in the middleweight division inside the UFC.

Ed will be transitioning from the UFC to Strikeforce, and he will be looking to rebound off a tough loss to Jake Shields.  In the bout, Ed was unable to land anything significant and got taken down on multiple occasions.  If he wants to come out victorious against Souza, he will need to shore up these deficiencies because Souza is one of the best grapplers in all of MMA.

Souza will be coming into this fight with an overall record of 16-3-1.  He is coming off an impressive KO over Derek Brunson, who defeated Chris Leben earlier last week.  It was impressive because Souza has always been known for his top-notch grappling and jiu jitsu skills.  His hands have made marketed improvements over the years, making him a serious threat when he transitions over to the UFC.  Some notable fighters that Souza has defeated include Matt Linland, Jason Miller, Tim Kennedy, and Robbie Lawler.

Both of these fighters have well rounded games, and it is going to come down to who wants it the most and who executes their game plan first.  For Herman, he will need to keep this fight on the feet in hopes of stopping Souza via KO or TKO.  For Souza, he can take this fight anywhere, but his forte is the submission game.  Fans should expect him to come out ready to make a statement, getting ready for his career inside in the UFC.
