UFC on Fuel 8: Hector Lombard vs. Yushin Okami Booked
An important middleweight bout takes place on the Fuel 8 card as Hector Lombard vs. Yushin Okami has been booked. This news comes via UFC officials, and it should be an interesting match up in many regards.
Okami is coming off a dominant decision win over Alan Belcher. It was an impressive performance from Okami, and he showed to everyone why he is considered to be one of the best grapplers in the middleweight division. Okami is trying to erase the memory of his losses to Anderson Silva and Tim Boetsch, and a win over Lombard would be a huge feather in his cap.
For Lombard, beating a guy like Yushin Okami would solidify his status as being an elite middleweight because Okami has been a top five middleweight for years now. If he is able to get past the relentless Okami, he may very well be next in line for a title shot, which would be against Anderson Silva. A longtime standout under the Bellator promotion, Lombard will be looking to end Okami’s night in viscous fashion.
Lombard’s first appearance inside the octagon was less than thrilling, loosing a split decision to Tim Boetsch. In the bout, Lombard seemed tentative and rarely ever looked to engage on the feet. However, he would rattle back with an impressive TKO stoppage over Rousimar Palhares in the first round. Now, Lombard will look to get on a winning streak, and it will be very interested to see if he can thwart off Okami’s relentless grappling attack in hopes of getting a middleweight title shot.
