UFC middleweight fighter Rousimar Palhares has always had an intimidating physique – almost to the point where it seemed like he was taking some sort of supplements. This suspicion was confirmed, as Palhares failed his drug test after his fight with Hector Lombard. This news comes from the MMA Report.

“Rousimar Palhares tested positive for elevated testosterone and Joey Beltran tested positive for nandrolone, following their respective bouts at UFC on FX 6 in Australia.”

This is devastating news for Palhares fans, as he will be out of action for nine months, hindering his ability to get his MMA career back on track. Palhares has always been an exciting fighter with brutal leg locks, and it is weird that he decided to take steroids now. This is a rising problem MMA, and UFC officials are cracking down.

Whether the UFC cuts him remains to be seen, but it doesn’t look good for Palhares right now. He is coming off two consecutive losses, both of which ended in dramatic fashion. Why he took steroids is beyond me, but most of the time fighters take them in order to recover from injures suffered during training camp. Hopefully, Palhares will learn from this mistake and come back stronger in his next fight.

He has a lot of talent, and is vicious when it comes to the submission game, so maybe this time off will give him a chance to reassess his career. Also, his hands need marked improvements, and maybe this time will allow him to develop further as a stand up fighter.
