Daniel Cormier proved to be too much for Dion Staring tonight for Strikeforce’s final card ever.  Coming into this fight, Daniel was coming off a beautiful win over Josh Barnett. It was a sterling performance that solidified his status as being an elite fighter.  Tonight, Cormier did the same against a very game Dion Staring.

In the first round, Cormier took Staring down on multiple occasions, forcing Staring off his game plan.  In the second, Cormier would do much of the same, getting mount on numerous occasions and peppered Staring from the top.  In the end, Staring had no answer and the ref was forced to stop the bout via TKO in the second round.  Daniel is now 11-0 in his career as a mixed martial artist.

Cormier displayed some sensational wrestling and grappling skills, and it is clear that he has a bright future in the UFC if he can keep up his winning ways.  Props to Staring for stepping up on short notice and taking this fight.  He was game for much of the fight, but Cormier proved to be too much.

In his post-fight interview, Daniel would call out Frank Mir; a bout that was previously booked.  However, Frank Mir was forced out of the bout due to an injury.  A Frank Mir bout seems like his most logical opponent, which would be his biggest test to date.  When asked about a potential Jon Jones fight, Cormier would respond with the following:

” I am going to kick his ass”

Looks like UFC fighters have been put on notice as Daniel Cormier is ready for bigger and better things.  Tonight was a great outing for Cormier, and look for him to have a bright future in 2013.
