Anderson Silva VS Georges St-Pierre; read the following sentence with your favorite Batman voice: “It’s the fight that we deserve, but not the one we need.”

The Silva and GSP super fight can wait and it can wait for a long time. The fight that we need to happen is Benson Henderson against Gilbert Melendez and it may be very close in our sights.

With the end of Strikeforce, many of its top tier fighters are comfortably transitioning into the UFC. The UFC and its fans will enjoy the company of fighters like Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett (hopefully) and Melendez.

Melendez has never step foot in the UFC octagon, but he deserves to. Melendez needs a new home and it will be the UFC. When Melendez gets there, he will need to assert his dominance as a lightweight, by facing Henderson, the most dominant Lightweightweight Champ the UFC has seen thus far.

According to MMA Junkie, Henderson has signed an eight fight contract with the UFC. Ultimately, Henderson is going to be sticking around the UFC for a very long time, all he needs to do is continue winning. It would also appear that Henderson’s camp is interested in Melendez. Henderson’s manager, Malki Kawa, stated why he would be interested in Henderson fighting Melendez.

We really like the Gilbert Melendez fight, and I’ll tell you why: Gilbert Melendez has been ranked either No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 between himself, Frankie Edgar and Benson”

Henderson and Melendez need to fight, there may be a few road blocks, but in all likeliness will happen sooner than later.
