This weekend in the UFC features a compelling featherweight bout between Erik Koch and Ricardo Lamas.  Currently, Jose Aldo is reigning the division and is set to face Frankie Edgar, which has the makings to be an absolute war.  Erik Koch was originally scheduled to face Jose Aldo, but an injury forced him off the card.  Now, he will look to recapture his title shot, and so will Ricardo Lamas this weekend in the UFC.

Erik Koch will be coming into this fight off a win over Jonathan Brookins, which was a war of attrition that tested his grappling and wrestling defense.  Koch passed with flying colors, which will come in handy because Lamas is one of the better wrestlers in the division.  Koch’s only loss in his MMA career was to Chad Mendes, who is arguably the second best guy in the division right now.  If Koch is able to best Lamas, then he puts his name in line for a featherweight title shot.

Ricardo Lamas is coming into this fight off a unanimous decision win over one of the best grapplers in the division in Hatsu Hioki.  This was a huge win for Lamas because Hioki was ranked by many to be the second best featherweight in the world.  Lamas will be trying to continue this moment against one of the best strikers in the division in Koch.

This fight is an interesting stylistic clash as Lamas loves to take fights to the ground and Koch likes to stand and trade leather.  It will be interesting to see which fighter can impose their will this Saturday night, which should be an entertaining affair.
