UFC on Fox 6 takes place this weekend, and features a stacked card from top to bottom. Headlining the card is an exciting flyweight championship between Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson. Both of these fighters are extremely fast, and have well-rounded games that should make for a compelling war.
Also, Rampage Jackson will make his final UFC appearance against the Glover Teixeira. This fight has knockout-of-the-night written all over it, and Teixeira is looking for his biggest win to date. Let’s now take a look at the main card and make some predictions.
Featherweight: Erik Koch vs. Ricardo Lamas-This fight has a lot of significance behind it. There are not too many contenders in the featherweight division, so the winner of this bout is more than likely next in line for a title shot. Erik Koch is one of the most dynamic strikers in the division. Training with guys like Anthony Pettis, Koch will be looking to keep this fight on the feet as he has knockout power in both his hands and feet. However, Lamas possess the significant wrestling advantage in this fight. Lamas will be able to press Koch up against the cage and wear him down for the majority of three rounds. Also, he will be able to get take downs in route to a decision. Final prediction: Ricardo Lamas wins via unanimous decision.
Lightweight: Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone-The feud between these two will finally come to a clash. Stylistically, this bout is a fan’s dream. Both possess dynamic punches and kicks, and they also have the submission abilities to finish the fight in a matter of seconds. Anthony Pettis is the better athlete in this fight, and this will help him edge out a victory. Pettis will be able to use his jab effectively, but it will be his kicks and take down defense that will win him this fight. Final prediction: Anthony Pettis wins via unanimous decision.
Light Heavyweight: Rampage Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira-This fight has garnered a lot of attention as it will be Jackson’s last fight under the UFC banner. He has had a great career, and he seems to be saying all of the right things leading up to this bout. However, Jackson is well out of his prime years, and time’s effect on him can be seen with his latest loss to Ryan Bader. Teixeira has something that Rampage doesn’t, and that is motivation to be a champion. Teixeira will use this motivation and will pick apart Rampage on the feet. Also, don’t be surprised if Teixeira takes Rampage down, which has been one of his biggest deficiencies as of late. Final prediction: Glover Teixeira wins via submission (rear naked choke) in the second round.
Flyweight Championship: Demetrious Johnson vs. John Dodson-This main event should be a thrilling one as both fighters move with exceptional speed and have excellent footwork. Coming into this fight, Demetrious possesses the better wrestling, and Dodson possess the better striking. It will come down who can execute their game plan correctly. Although Dodson is a sensational talent in the flyweight division, Demetrious will be able to control Dodson and take him down on several occasions. It will be a back and forth war, but Demetrious will do just enough each round in terms of grappling to eek out a decision. Final prediction: Demetrious Johnson wins via unanimous decision.
