As Invicta Fighting Championships prepares for their fifth event, one fighter who will not be performing on the card is undefeated strawweight Tecia Torres.
Torres, known to fans as “The Tiny Tornado,” announced on her Facebook page that she had gotten the confirmation that she would not be on the Invicta FC April card. While fans voiced their disappointment, Torres said she would be looking to make her professional Muay Thai debut. This was confirmed by Invicta FC matchmaker Janet Martin on her Facebook page.
Prior to her mixed martial arts debut, Torres was an accomplished amateur kickboxer and won several titles. I think her decision to go pro is a great career move, as one of her primary skills in MMA is her striking, which helped her in her MMA fights against Kaiyana Rain and Paige VanZant. While she only has only one TKO on her MMA record, the Tiny Tornado has used her striking, along with her takedown defense, to control opponents and grind out decisions.
This move to professional kickboxing does not mark the end of Torres’ MMA career. She assured her fans that she would be competing on the Invicta FC 6 card in July and might even compete in April if there a fighter pulls out of a match.
With Torres focusing on her professional kickboxing, it will help improve her stand-up game, which spells doom for the next fighter who steps across from her in a cage.
