Bellator Fighting Championships’ loss is Invicta FC’s gain.
According to a press release released by Invicta FC, Zolia “Warrior Princess” Frausto Gurgel, Bellator Women’s 115-pound champion has signed a multi-fight contract and will make her debut in April against Brazilian Jennifer Maia.
While Frausto Gurgel had an impressive 6-1 run with Bellator, that included her winning their title and defeating fighters like Megumi Fugii, Jessica Aguilar and Jessica Penne. Signing with Invicta FC is the best move for her career in my opinion.
Although Bellator still showcases some women fights, it does not have depth of women’s divisions that Invicta has, nor does it seem that interested in having a solid women’s division.
Fighting for Invicta will give the Warrior Princess a chance to fight some of the highly touted 125-pound prospects and veterans from around the world. If she decided to drop to strawweight, she could end up facing Carla Esparza, who is the current Invicta 115-pound champion.
Maia, who fights with the well-known Chute Boxe fight team, is a good challenge for the Warrior Princess’ debut. At 6-2, four of her wins have ended in the first round.
In addition to the higher competition, the Bellator women’s champion will also be in good company as her sister Stephanie Frausto currently fights in the promotion’s atomweight [105 pounds] division.
If she can make a splash in her Invicta FC debut, Frausto Gurgel may get a shot at the winner of the Vanessa Porto vs. Barb Honchak flyweight title fight.
