An exciting featherweight bout takes place February 16 between Dustin Poirier and Cub Swanson. Both of these fighters have been staples in the featherweight division for some time now, and a win could propel them into a number-one contender spot.
Poirier is coming off an impressive win over Jonathan Brookins, which ended with an emphatic D’arce choke in the first round. It was a much-needed, win as Poirier was trying to get rid the memory of a loss to Chan Sung Jung, which was the fight of the year. Going up against Swanson, Dustin will look to end the fight in dramatic fashion in hopes of getting a featherweight title shot.
Cub Swanson has been on a roll as of late, who is on a three-fight winning streak over some durable opponents in Ross Pearson and George Roop. His striking has vastly improved since joining the UFC from the WEC, and it will be interesting to see if he can keep it up when he takes on Poirier.
Stylistically, this fight is fantastic as both fighters can end the fight both standing and on the ground. For Cub, he likes to use his crisp combinations, and his relentless pace to force his opponents back. Also, he is known to submit fighters via guillotine, which is his signature submission move.
Poirier likes to mix up his striking with his dynamic submission attacks, and is is one of the most exciting fighters in the division , so this scrap shouldn’t go the distance and has FOTN written all over it.
