Uriah Hall’s TUF 17 knockout a little too overhyped

This previous episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Jones vs. Team Sonnen” had the whole MMA world talking about the knockout delivered to Team Jones’ Adam Cella by Team Sonnen’s Uriah Hall.

In the first round of their exhibition match Hall landed a spinning wheel kick that dropped Cella to the canvas.

After taking several minutes to recover from the blow, Cella went to the hospital for a precautionary visit. He was accompanied by Jon Jones, the UFC Light Heavyweight champion and head coach for Team Jones. The champion took to Twitter to update everyone on Cella’s condition. Many fans, including UFC President Dana White had said it was one of the “craziest” knockouts he had ever seen.

While it was a beautiful knockout, I thought it was a bit overhyped. Some of the knockouts seen on previous seasons, like the ones on the premier episode TUF’s season 14, were just as breathtaking as Hall’s.  There are also numerous knockouts throughout UFC history that would stack up against Hall’s spinning wheel kick.

Although Hall will most likely receive $25,000 “Knockout of the Season” bonus and solidify his spot on the UFC, his knockout over Cella will probably be overshadowed over time. It seemed like yesterday that fans were raving about Edson Barbosa’s KO to Terry Etim.

Still, if Hall’s knockout is a precursor to his future in the UFC, he will become a top contender in little time.
