A featherweight bout is in on tap for UFC on Fuel TV 9 between Pablo Garza and Diego Brandao. Both fighters are coming off impressive wins, so this match up makes a lot of since.
Garza comes into this fight off a win over Mark Hominick, which was the last we would ever see of Hominick. In the bout, Garza showed superior striking and grappling techniques. It was Garza’s biggest win to date and he is building some momentum behind him, despite loosing back to back fights against Dustin Poirier and Dennis Bermudez.
What makes Garza so compelling to watch is the way he uses his reach when standing. His boxing combinations are crisp, making him a dynamic featherweight with a lot of potential if he can put everything together.
Diego Brandao also is coming off a win against Joey Gambino. It was a much needed win that keeps this TUF winner back in the hunt in this featherweight division. Brandao is known for storming his opponents, often finishing them in the first round. However, if the fight makes it past the first, his conditioning comes into play. We saw it with his loss against Darren Elkins. If he wants to come out with the victory, this department will need to have made some serious improvements, which is possible when you train under Greg Jackson.
This fight should be compelling as both fighters like to stand and bang. They also have competent grappling skills, so this fight should be exciting no matter where it goes.
