UFC on Fuel TV 7 goes down tomorrow night in London, featuring a bantamweight championship between Renan Barao and Michael McDonald. Both fighters are some of the best in their division, and the winner of this fight claims the interim belt for a chance to challenge Dominick Cruz.
Barao has an incredible winning streak going for him, and he looked exceptional in his latest victory against Urijah Faber. Michael McDonald also has took this division by storm, possessing one punch knockout power with some exceptional wrestling skills. Let’s now take a look at the rest of the main card and make some predictions.
Matt Riddle vs. Che Mills: This welterweight bout is intriguing as both fighters have exciting stand up skills. Matt Riddle essentially is coming into hostile territory, but he is the more well-rounded fighter. Riddle will exchange with Mills on the feet, but will eventually get this fight to the ground. From there, he will land some good shots from the top. Final Prediction: Matt Riddle wins via unanimous decision.
James Te Huna vs. Ryan Jimmo: This light heavyweight bout should be action packed as both fighters have exceptional striking skills. James Te Huna likes to finish opponents early and he has knockout power in his hands. Conversely, Jimmo likes to land strikes in hopes of scoring, and likes to use his grappling skills when on top. James Te Huna will control the stand up portion of the fight and clip Jimmo early. Final Prediction: James Te Huna wins via TKO in the first round.
Gunnar Nelson vs. Jorge Santiago: Gunnar Nelson is a experienced fighter who has been looking great as of late. He will be able to take Santiago down and work his submissions. Santiago is no fish out of water when it comes to the ground game, but Gunnar will be too much for him as Santiago seems to be slowing down in his career. Final Prediction: Gunnar Nelson wins via submission (rear-naked choke) in the first round.
Jimi Manuwa vs. Cyrille Diabate: This bout has the makings to be a classic as both fighters possess some serious striking abilities. Diabate has the range in this fight, and he will use this to his advantage. Diabate will control the exchanges on the feet, hurting Manuwa at some point. Final Prediction: Cyrille Diabate wins via TKO in the second round.
Dustin Poirier vs. Cub Swanson: This featherweight bout has Fight-Of-The-Night written all over it. Both of these fighters love the exchange in hopes getting the KO, but they also have dynamic grappling skills. Poirier will be the better athlete in this fight, and he will be able to control the stand up on the feet. He will take his time and get this fight to the ground, getting a dynamic submission. Final Prediction Dustin Poirier wins via submission (d’arce choke) in the first round.
Renan Barao vs. Michael McDonald: This bantamweight championship has the makings to be a classic. Barao has the better jiu jitsu in this fight and McDonald has the better power stranding. It’s going to come down to who can control the pace. Barao has proven to be difficult to take down, and this will benefit him in the fight. McDonald will put up a fight, but he will not be able to hold and keep Barao down for very long. Barao will avoid the power shots of McDonald and he will land some viscous leg kicks in the process. Final Prediction: Renan Barao wins via unanimous decision.
