“The Ultimate Fighter” is pulling record ratings for FX. Now, the UFC is stacking the finale and showcasing the event in a prime Las Vegas venue.
In line with previous seasons on FX, the “TUF 17” finale will be aired on non-pay per view TV. Unlike previous seasons, however, a title fight will be headlining during the April 17 event.
Last week, the UFC confirmed Demetrious Johnson will defend his flyweight title against John Moraga at the season finale. That news came on the heels of the UFC confirming two additional fights for that card between title contenders. The main card will feature Gabriel Gonzaga versus Travis Browne and Miesha Tate versus Cat Zingano.
Today, the card received even a bigger boost.
MMA Junkie reported the UFC has contacted the Nevada State Athletic Commission about holding the finale at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
The 12,000-seat arena is widely regarded as the best location to see a fight and has a significantly greater seating capacity than the event’s typical venues of the Pearl at the Palms or the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. With the Mandalay Bay’s cavernous feel and first-rate lighting and acoustics, the TUF finalists are getting one of the finest stages in the world to showcase their talents. Spectators in even the most inexpensive seats in the arena will have excellent sight lines to see the fighters’ handiwork.
Most importantly, this is a golden opportunity for MMA fans to witness a solid card at Mandalay Bay. Typically, the arena hosts major pay-per-views and fans experience ticket scarcity when trying to purchase admission to MMA events.
UFC President Dana White recently spoke about “The Ultimate Fighter” with Examiner.
“The coaches are great, but what is really making this season,” White said.
That talent White gushed about is now set to be showcased on a stacked card in one of the greatest MMA venues in the world.
