Jackson’s MMA does the ‘Harlem Shake’
Even with several of their fighters preparing for big matches, Greg Jackson’s gym knows how to have fun.
Jackson’s MMA released a 30-second video of their fighters performing their own version of the “Harlem Shake” internet meme.
The video begins with UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon Jones dancing in the cage as Frank Mir talks with a trainer, and two fighters practicing with mitts. After 15 seconds, the bass drops and the cage is filled with more people dancing.
When I first saw Sarah Kaufman, who can be seen dancing near Jones in the second half of the video, post the video I cringed a little bit before watching it. I’ve seen a handful of other “Harlem Shake” videos and to me they looked like a video demonstrated the results of giving someone too much alcohol.
In the case of Jackson’s video, I found it to be funny. The two things that did it for me were Jones’ dance moves in both parts of the video and the guy hitting the pads to the beat of the music in the first 15 seconds of the video. I also enjoyed Kaufman’s dancing as it showed me a side of her that not a lot of fans get to see. It reminded me of one of my friends dancing to the 5th Dimension’s “Age of Aquarius.”
With Jackson’s MMA showing their dance moves, other gyms might produce their own videos. Perhaps we’ll see Urijah Faber and Team Alpha Male perform lip sync to Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep.” Personally I’d like to see Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu perform Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” with Gilbert Melendez as the crotch-thrusting guy in the elevator.
I also wouldn’t mind seeing UFC Welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre play “Slender.”
