Renan Barao is coming off an exceptional submission win over heavy-hitter Michael McDonald.  In the bout, Barao showed excellent take downs  and proved to be too much for McDonald in the fourth frame.  Now, there is only one man who Barao has to face to be considered the very best in the bantamweight division.

That man is Dominick Cruz, who is the current bantamweight champion despite having several ACL injuries.  This is the fight to make in the bantamweight division, so long as Cruz can train and stay healthy until the fight is actually booked.  In terms of styles, both of these fighters have dynamic skills and can beat any man on any given night.

Dominick Cruz was last seen in the octagon against Demetrious Johnson back in 2011.  It was a great performance, where Cruz was able to dictate the pace and control Johnson, which is something not many fighters have been able to do.   Cruz has only lost once in his career to Urijah Faber, but he would avenge that loss, making him the best bantamweight on the planet.

Renan Barao also sports an impressive record and winning streak, who is currently 30-1-1.  His ability to take the fight anywhere and defend the take down makes him a tough outing for anyone.  Also, he has some of the best training partners in the world in Jose Aldo, so he is constantly evolving his fight game.

This fight needs to happen as soon as possible before either fighter looses their mass appeal to the fans.  If there was any fighter to challenge Barao, especially in the wrestling department and quickness, it’s Dominick Cruz.  The champion needs to fight the interim champion in order to unify the belts.  Make it happen Joe Silva.
