A dynamic light heavyweight bout is expected to take place at UFC 160 between heavy hitters Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira. This news comes via the UFC’s Twitter page:
“@UFCTonight: #Breaking: @kjnoons will face@Cowboycerrone at #UFC160!” Plus @ryanbader vs@gloverteixeira a go for Memorial Day!
Both of these fighters are coming off impressive wins, so their bout makes all the more sense. Coming into this scheduled fight, Glover is coming off his biggest UFC win against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. It was a sterling performance that showcased Glover’s competent boxing skills. Also, he was able to drag this fight to the ground and force Jackson to be on his guard.
Glover is now 3-0 in the UFC, and is a serious threat in the light heavyweight division. If he can make it 4-0 against Bader, then he is more than likely next in line for the title shot. Currently Jon Jones is scheduled to face Chael Sonnen for the belt, and the winner of this fight has the chance to secure the fate as the number one contender.
Ryan Bader will be coming into this fight off a submission win over Vladimir Matyushenko. It was a guillotine choke that was pulled off less than a minute into the fight, showcasing Ryan’s strength and submission skills. Bader has now won three out of his last four fights, and a win over Glover would be his biggest to date and may even warrant a title shot.
Glover and Bader have dynamic skill sets, making their fights exciting to watch. For Glover, his clearest path to victory is on his feet. His combinations have never looked better as of late, and he can end the fight if he keeps the pressure on Bader. For Bader, his best path to victory is in his wrestling. If he can take Glover down on numerous occasions, he will be able to thwart Glover’s power and may even be able to tire him out.
