Invicta FC 5: River Jones ready for next level of competition

Tracy Lee – Invicta FC

While Invicta Fighting Championships has been known for showcasing the best female fighters in mixed martial arts, the promotion has also introduced fight fans to some of the top amateur prospects in the world. Invicta FC 5 will only feature one amateur fighter making her professional debut: River “Ruckus” Jones, who will face Lauren Barefoot (1-0) on the first fight of the show.

Jones comes in with a 6-0 amateur record with four TKO finishes, while Barefoot comes in with a combined three TKOs from her amateur and professional records. Needless to say, this could be an exciting match on the feet as both have excellent striking, and it’s a fight that could potentially steal the show, despite it being the first match on the card.

If there is one disadvantage Jones will have in her fight, it’s her one-year layoff from competition, which could result into some cage-rust in the early moment of the fight. However, this can be remedied with training.

One thing you can say about Invicta is they are always on the lookout for top talent. Whether or not she defeats Barefoot, Jones will fit in fine in the promotion’s bantamweight division, which already features some of the best 135-pound strikers in all of women’s MMA.

If Jones defeats Barefoot, it will be the first in many victories to come in her professional career.
