UFC on Fuel TV 8: Diego Sanchez vs. Takanori Gomi Preview
A lightweight bout takes place at UFC on Fuel TV 8 between TUF winner Diego Sanchez and Pride veteran Takanori Gomi. These two fighters are known for their exciting styles and pushing the pace on their opponents, so it should be a real treat for UFC fans.
Diego Sanchez is coming back down to the lightweight division, where he was even able to challenge B.J. Penn for the lightweight title. He was unsuccessful in the bout, but showed tremendous heart and never gave up. From there he would go back up to welterweight, where he found mixed results. Sanchez competed on TUF Season 1, where he was able to defeat Kenny Florian in the finals. He is known for his relentless ground and pound, which should be on full display against Gomi.
Sanchez was a force in the lightweight division and beat some quality opponents, but just didn’t have enough skills to defeat Penn. It will be interesting to see how his weight cut goes and if he can resurrect his fighting career.
Takanori Gomi is a Pride superstar, who would defeat a lot of high-caliber fighters such as Hayato Sakurai and Jens Pulver. Transitioning to the UFC, Gomi would go 3-3, beating the likes of Tyson Griffin and Mac Danzig. He is known for the knockout power, and is one of the most experience fighters in the UFC’s lightweight division. A win over Diego Sanchez would be huge for his career, and would certainly get some momentum behind his name.
Both of these fighters can take the fight anywhere, making it a dynamic lightweight bout that should project the winner higher up the rankings.
