According to Tatame, UFC light heavyweights Shogun Rua and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira have verbally agreed to fight in June. This will be a rematch between two of the most experienced fighters in the UFC, where Shogun was able to walk away with a unanimous decision the first time they met.
June looks to be when UFC 161 is taking place, which also might feature a middleweight championship between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. A win for either fighter would project themselves up the rankings, where Jon Jones reigns supreme. Shogun Rua is coming off a tough unanimous decision defeat against Alexander Gustafsson, where he wasn’t able to land anything significant in the bout. He will need to regroup in a big way if he wants to defeat Nogueira again.
Rogerio has been on a roll as of late in the light heavyweight division. His most recent victory was over perennial contender Rashad Evans. In the bout, Rogerio was able to land more shots on the feet, earning a unanimous decision. He has now won four out of his last six fights in the UFC, and a win over Shogun would certainly warrant a title shot.
Shogun is the former UFC light heavyweight champion after beating Lyoto Machida in devastating fashion. He would lose his belt to Jon Jones, who is arguably the best fighter on the planet right now. If he wants to make another title run, he will need to dedicate himself fully to this camp as Nogueira is no slouch standing or on the ground.
