A light heavyweight bout is in the works between former champ Rashad Evans and Pride superstar Dan Henderson. This bout is scheduled to take place for UFC 161, which also features a bout between Antonio Rogerio Nogueira and Shogun Rua.

Both fighters are coming off flat performances, and they will need to get a win in order to stay relevant in the division, which is currently being dominated by Jon Jones.

Rashad Evans is coming off a lethargic performance against Rogerio Nogueira. Rashad never really looked to exchange and implement his take downs, which led to his downfall. He is now on a two-fight losing streak, and another loss may force him to move down to the middleweight division or even retirement.

For a long time, Rashad was considered one of the best light heavyweights in the world. He was even the UFC champion until Lyoto Machida defeated him in impressive fashion with a brutal knockout. Since this loss, he just hasn’t looked the same, despite transitioning from Team Jackson to the Blackzillians.

Dan Henderson is in a similar position because he didn’t look to great against the elusive Lyoto Machida. Dan did manage to take Machida down, but the judges ultimately saw it in favor of Lyoto. If Dan ever wants to contend for a title, he will more than likely have to be more aggressive and take more risks, just like in his fight with Fedor Emelianenko.

The winner of this bout puts their name right back in the mix and could thwart retirement. Will Henderson be able to win in impressive fashion, or will the athleticism and wrestling be enough for Rashad to come out with the victory? Stay tuned!
