Angela Magana could become champion in XFC debut

It was almost six months ago when Angela Magana, currently 11-5, lost to Jessica “Evil” Eye by decision. Putting the loss to Eye behind her, she now finds herself in a championship bout in her debut for Xtreme Fighting Championships, April 19.

Magana, who has gone 3-2 in her last five fights, has earned the opportunity for a title match, despite having never competed in the XFC cage. Meanwhile her opponent, Stephanie “Snowflake” Eggnik, is 1-0 with the promotion and is coming off of a decision win over Heather Clark.

Magana’s two big advantages in this fight are her experience and her submission skills.

Magana made her debut back in 2007, defeating Tia Castillo by TKO less than two minutes in the first round. She has also fought some of the top opponents currently in women’s MMA, including: Invicta Fighting Championship Atomweight champion Jessica Penne, Invicta FC Strawweight title contender Barb Honchak and Bellator Fighting Championships star Jessica Aguilar.

As for her grappling skills, Magana has scored five first-round submission victories. However, Eggnik also has some submission skills of her own, as well as that hunger a lot of prospects have when they are starting their paths to glory. The Snowflake could pull off an upset in the biggest fight of her career to date.

Whether she wins or loses to Eggnik, I think XFC fans will quickly take to Magana. She has overcome a lot of adversity in her life, including a childhood where she lived with heroin-addicted parents, as well as recovering from a shattered spine to win the Freestyle Cage Fighting Championship back in 2008.

April 19 may be the day where Magana adds more gold to her trophy case.
