The welterweight division is one of the most competitive divisions inside the UFC. Fighters like Georges St. Pierre, Jon Fitch, and Carlos Condit have been staples for a long time, but an unsung fighter who always brings the action has been Rick Story. Tonight at UFC 158, Story was quite possibly fighting for his UFC job as he has lost three out of his last four fights.
Tonight’s fight started out with Story pressing forward and looking to land something big. Story would force Quinn Mulhern back on numerous occasions landing some good combinations early. It was apparent from the very beginning that Story was fighting with a sense of urgency, and it sure did pay off for him.
Story would end up clipping Quinn when he was against the cage, forcing him to the canvas. From there, Story would land unanswered blows to the body of Quinn, and the ref was forced to step in. It was a much needed TKO victory for Story and certainly puts him back up the welterweight rankings. Whoever Story faces, he likes to pressure his opponents and force them to fight at his pace.
This was apparent tonight, and it’s this fighting style that makes him one of the most exciting and dangerous fighters in the welterweight division. This win helps erase the memory of his latest loss, which was against Demian Maia that would end in brutal fashion in favor of Maia. Now, Rick can finally build some momentum again in hopes of fighting elite fighters in this division.
