UFC on Fuel TV 9: Ross Pearson vs. Ryan Couture Preview
A UFC lightweight bout takes place at UFC on Fuel TV 9 between heavy-hitter Ross Pearson and Ryan Couture. Known for his power and ability to take a punch, Pearson will look to build some momentum after defeating George Sotiropoulos in his last outing.
It was a much needed win for Pearson as the two fighters shared a lot of tension on TUF Smashes season. Now, he is 14-6 in his MMA career, and a win over Ryan Couture would put him in the mix in this highly competitive division.
This will be Ryan Couture’s first fight under the UFC banner, where his father, Randy Couture, was able to become champion in the light heavyweight and heavyweight divisions. Even though Ryan will always live in the shadow of his father in terms of mixed martial arts, he possesses some capable skills and is currently 6-1.
His latest win against K.J. Noons was a bit controversial as many fans thought K.J. did enough to warrant a decision. Coming into the UFC, Ryan will have a huge target on his back. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against elite fighters, and his fight with Ross should be a good litmus test to see where he stands as a fighter.
Both fighters are fully capable of putting on an exciting fight for the fans, making this a lightweight bout to watch. Ross possesses the more experience and the better power, and it will be interesting to see what type of strategy he tries to implement when he squares off with Ryan.
Will Ryan be able to break away from Randy Couture’s shadow and get a much needed victory in his UFC debut? Stay tuned!
