WSOF 2 Results: Josh Burkman TKOs Aaron Simpson

By Jeremy Green

WSOF 2 kicked off last night, featuring a welterweight bout between former UFC fighters Josh Burkman and Aaron Simpson.  Coming into this fight, the winner was more than likely going to be fighting Jon Fitch, who recently was removed from the UFC roster.  This was huge news as a win over Jon Fitch would be big for their fighting careers.

In the first round, Josh Burkman showcased some competent striking, setting up some great combinations and forcing Aaron backward.  Burkman would eventually clip Aaron with a knee against the cage, and the ref was forced to stop the bout.  Burkman is now 3-0 under the World Series Of Fighting banner, and this Simpson win was huge.  Now, it looks like he will square up against Jon Fitch in what should be a war.

For Aaron, he will have to go back to the drawing board.  Since dropping down to welterweight, he has gone 1-2 and hasn’t really showcased his fighting capabilities.  He will need to bounce back in a big way if he wants to continue a career in fighting.

Burkman has always showed potential.  When he was in the UFC, he beat some top fighters in Josh Neer and Drew Fickett, but would end up getting submitted by Jon Fitch via rear naked choke.  He will need to access his strategy against Fitch if he wants to avenge the loss, which took place back in 2006.

Congrats to Burkman as this was an impressive outing and certainly keeps him going under the WSOF banner.
