An important bantamweight bout is in the works for UFC 160 between heavy-hitters George Roop and Brian Bowles. Both fighters are in need of a win, and if they win in spectacular fashion, they will make a huge jump in the bantamweight rankings. This bout was confirmed via MMA Junkie.
Coming into this fight, George Roop is coming off an important win over Reuben Duran. This bout was a return to the bantamweight division for Roop after loosing two straight to Hatsu Hioki and Cub Swanson. Roop hasn’t really been able to have a consistent UFC career, and he will be looking to change this when he squares off with Brian Bowles. His most notable win in recent years was over Chan Sung Jung, where he was able to get a terrific KO in the second round.
Bowles has also shown some inconsistencies in the UFC, losing by way of submission to Urijah Faber in his most recent UFC outing. Before this loss, Bowles was on a two fight winning streak and beat some top fighters in Damacio Page and Takeya Mizugaki. In these wins, Bowles showed a dynamic game that mixed striking and grappling. He will need the same type of performance against Roop if he wants to come out the victor.
Both fighters have knockout power in their hands, so this fight shouldn’t go the distance and has Knockout Of The Night written all over it. The loser takes a serious hit in their fighting career, so it’s imperative that they both have stellar performances in order to remain relevant in the bantamweight division.
