UFC on Fuel TV 9: Brad Pickett vs. Mike Easton Preview
UFC on Fuel TV 9 takes place this weekend, and will feature a compelling bantamweight bout between Brad Pickett and Mike Easton. Both fighters are coming off deflating loses, so they are in a must-win situation.
Currently, the bantamweight division is being put on hold, where champion Dominick Cruz has had to sit out due to several knee injuries. A win for Pickett or Easton puts their name right back in the mix, so this fight should bring out the best in both fighters.
Pickett has been one of the most exciting bantamweights under the UFC roster, and has shown to have knockout power in his hands. Despite having competent boxing skills, he hasn’t really been able to get a consistent win streak going in his UFC tenure. In his last performance against Eddie Wineland, Pickett wasn’t able to get off any significant punches, which allowed Wineland to get the unanimous decision.
Similarly, Easton looked flat in his loss against Raphael Assuncao. Easton has all of the physical attributes that it takes to succeed at the highest level of MMA, but has never really shown finishing capabilities since joining the UFC.
Looking at Easton, one would think he has knockout power and can wrestle his opponents to the ground at will, but this hasn’t been the case. He always looks tentative when exchanging with his opponents on the feet, which doesn’t bode well for him if he takes a similar strategy against Pickett.
A defeat for either fighter may spell the end for their chances at becoming a champion, so they will need to bring everything they have in hopes of coming out the victor.
