It appears the always controversial Nick Diaz has retired from MMA, again. This news comes from Ariel Helwani, who reported it on the UFC Tonight show.
“Right now Nick is retired, unless he gets rematch with Georges St-Pierre or the big Anderson Silva fight. Apparently if he doesn’t get those, he’s going to remain retired.”
As it appears for Nick Diaz and his fans, things don’t look good. Anderson Silva is currently set to fight Chris Weidman while GSP is set to take on either Johny Hendricks or Silva in his next fight. So, unless Diaz wants to get a win under his belt in hopes of moving back up the welterweight rankings, it looks like his time in this sport has come to a close.
The UFC would be hard pressed to give Diaz another title shot. Especially after the way he was dominated by GSP at UFC 158. In the bout, GSP was able to stifle Diaz by using his grappling and stern top control. Soon after the bout, Diaz demanded a rematch or a fight with Silva. It appears he’s still on this campaign and it will be interesting to see if this is a bold claim or he is simply positioning himself for more money.
Regardless of whether Diaz fights again, he has always been one of the most entertaining fighters in the sport of mixed martial arts. He carries a charisma inside and outside the cage, making fans tune into his every move.
Will Diaz ever step inside the cage again and get a rematch with GSP or a super-fight with Silva? Stay tuned!
