In one of the most intriguing matchups on the UFC on Fuel TV 9 televised card, Ross Pearson takes on Ryan Couture in a lightweight bout.
Pearson, who has alternated wins and losses over his last six fights, is coming off a huge knockout win over George Sotiropoulos at UFC on FX 6. “The Real Deal” will now be looking to win his second consecutive fight since his return to the UFC’s lightweight. Pearson has a golden opportunity to do that with his favorable pairing against an over-matched Couture.
In an interview with MMACrazyTV.com, Pearson talked about his career’s resurgence since returning to lightweight. “I’ve worked so hard, you know, and good things happen to those who work hard for it,” Pearson said. “I keep working on skill sets and my frame of mind is a lot different than it was.”
Pearson will certainly give the inexperienced Couture more than he can handle.
With only seven professional fights, Couture has very little experience inside the cage. Couture, who is a Strikeforce veteran, has squeaked by his last two opponents by way of controversial split-decisions. With Saturday being his first fight inside the UFC, Couture will unlikely receive further favorable judges’ rulings in his fight against Pearson, who is an Octagon veteran of nine fights.
This will force Couture to attempt to finish Pearson, which is highly unlikely to occur. Couture is not known as a high-level submission artist and has only stopped one opponent by way of punches. Pearson, on the other hand, has a solid chin and showed his mettle in his recent slugfest against Sotiropoulos.
Pearson will use his speed, power and experience to tire out Couture and put him away in the second round.
