UFC on Fox 8: Rory MacDonald vs. Jake Ellenberger Set
A pivotal welterweight bout is in the works between rising stars Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald. This bout is tentatively scheduled for UFC on Fox 8, which will take place in Seattle. This is a huge fight as the winner is more than likely the next number one contender in the division where Georges St. Pierre has remained supreme for many years now.
Ellenberger comes into this welterweight bout off an impressive TKO win over Nate Marquardt, where he was able to get off a barrage of punches. It was a sterling performance from Ellenberger and one that could certainly warrant a title shot. However, Johny Hendricks is next in line against GSP, but a win over MacDonald, no doubt, grants him the next shot.
MacDonald is on a hot streak, beating his last four opponents in devastating fashion. Since his loss to Carlos Condit, MacDonald has looked unstoppable, which was clear in his B.J. Penn fight. He picked Penn apart for three rounds; never once getting into any kind of trouble. After the win, MacDonald was set for a rematch with Condit, but things fell apart. Now, MacDonald will face Ellenberger in what has Fight-Of-The-Night written all over it.
Both of these elite welterweights have excellent wrestling, and their striking is getting better with each fight. For Ellenberger, he is arguably the most powerful puncher in the division save for Johny Hendricks, and it will be entertaining to see if he can stop the dominant MacDonald. MacDonald is arguably the most well-rounded fighter in the welterweight division, and it doesn’t hurt when you train with GSP on a daily basis.
The stakes are high for this welterweight bout, and it should be a true treat for MMA fans on UFC on Fox 8.
